French figurative artist originally from Guadeloupe based in Atlanta, GA, my work is inspired by my personal journey with my natural hair, moving from feelings of embarrassment to acceptance and pride.
Since 2019, I have dedicated myself to exploring the history and cultural significance of black hair. Through my art, I am committed to challenging the societal norms that have long stigmatised black hair, opting instead to celebrate its beauty and uniqueness.
I’m also an activist and I’m proud to have been behind the landmark law against hair discrimination in France. By taking a bold stand against this injustice, I worked with MP O. Serva to rally political decision-makers, community leaders and the public to support legislative action. This law against hair discrimination was enacted by the French Parliament on 28 March 2024, making France the first country in the world to pass such legislation at national level.
My influence extends beyond art and politics; I speak at conferences, high schools and universities, sharing my experiences and using both words and brushes to illustrate the challenges and successes of embracing our identity.
Art has the power to transform and inspire social change.
