French figurative artist originally from Guadeloupe and living in Atlanta (GA), my work is inspired by my personal journey with my natural hair, transitioning from feelings of embarrassment to acceptance and pride.
Since 2019, I have been dedicated to exploring the history and cultural significance of black hair. I am committed to challenging societal norms that have long stigmatized black hair, opting instead to celebrate its beauty and uniqueness.
Additionally, I am an activist, and I proudly lead the initiative for the historic law against hair discrimination in France. Taking a bold stand against this injustice, I collaborated with MP Olivier Serva to rally political decision-makers, community leaders, and the public to support legislative action. This law against hair discrimination was enacted by the French Parliament on March 28, 2024, establishing France as the first country in the world to adopt such legislation at a national level.
My influence extends beyond art and politics; I speak at conferences, high schools and universities, sharing my experiences and using both words and brushes to illustrate the challenges and successes of embracing our identity.
Art has the power to inspire social change.
My paintings serve as a visual anthem, promoting messages of individuality and self-esteem. I seek to inspire women and girls to embrace their natural beauty, feel comfortable in their authenticity and encourage the confident celebration of their differences. In a society that has often perpetuated European hair textures as the standard of beauty, my art seeks to redefine and celebrate diverse hair forms.
